SENIOR ELECTRICAL CAD TECHNICIAN

Education and Certification: Technical College or University Degree

Computer Literacy: Advanced skill in AutoCAD with additional intermediate level skills with Microsoft Office programs including word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint and email.

Be capable of performing the following tasks:

plan and design power systems and equipment for generators

develop electrical bills of materials (BOM), lighting and grounding plans, construction plans and details and be familiar with and review electrical specifications

supervise design personnel and assist construction and maintenance staff with troubleshooting

design and produce drawings of electrical systems, control systems, connection diagrams and one-lines using computer-assisted design (CAD)

make decisions on the type and arrangement of circuits, transformers, circuit breakers, distribution lines and equipment based on calculations and electrical standards

provide input to improve products and deliverables including electric motors, parts and equipment

prepare and interpret specifications, drawings, codes and standards for the use of the electrical power equipment required

develop drawing schedules, the number of design drawings and specifications required and the delivery and installation schedules for required electrical parts, switchgear, cables, fittings, etc.

organize and manage design staff and materials in the design and construction of electrical systems, machines, appliances and equipment

ensure that completed design meets specifications, safety requirements and all applicable codes and standards (NEC, IEC, GOST and other applicable national and international standards)

design and provide installation instructions for appropriate control, signaling and monitoring devices

design required telecommunications and control equipment and networks

ensure the design adheres to all applicable safety codes and requirements for the operation of the system

Assists with and coordinates the operation, maintenance and repair of the equipment and systems during field installations as required


Position Requirements: Researches, develops and designs electrical equipment, components and systems applying electrical design principles and techniques. Undertakes detailed electrical design for electrical systems and components for domestic and international commercial and industrial applications, including primary and secondary electrical power distribution systems that provide uninterrupted and generator backup power. Directs personnel in the design, fabrication and testing of system mockups and determines methods, procedures and conditions for testing mockups as well as the actual system installations. Designs applications for controls, instruments and systems for new domestic and international commercial and industrial uses. Directs design activities to ensure that the design is able to be manufactured, constructed, installed, tested and commissioned to conform to the functional specifications and customer requirements. Utilizes the latest versions of AutoCAD and be able to train design personnel on the use of AutoCAD, assist in the development of systems and procedures to ensure the CAD system is used effectively and provide guidance and advise on the planning and management of advanced CAD techniques.

Must have a thorough working knowledge of international and national electrical codes and standards, power requirements including medium and high voltage distribution systems, power generators (backup and prime) and associated equipment and controls. Should know the methods of providing uninterrupted electrical power and must have the ability to design, specify, and provide procedures for the testing, installation and commissioning of power systems utilizing components available at the location of the project. Must be able to design and specify equipment in both US and metric formats.

Must have excellent communication and organizational skills, be capable of working independently and familiar with workflow processes, redlines and drawing production. Have supervision experience and be proactive with the ability to take the lead in challenging situations. Have trouble shooting experience, commissioning and testing experience with power generation systems. Successfully complete a background check and drug screening prior to employment.
