Electrical Designer II
Zachry Engineering is currently recruiting for an Electrical Designer II for the Omaha Design Center. This position applies computerized drafting methods with a working knowledge of the terms and procedures to obtain engineered electrical drawings and models. Assignments will be completed utilizing information provided by project managers, project engineers or technical services staff. The Electrical Designer II will work in the Railroad Department. Drafting and designing the electrical components of railroad projects. Responsibilities • Develop wiring diagrams, connection diagrams, one-line/three line diagrams, schematic/elementary diagrams, logic diagrams and conduit/raceway diagrams. • Ability to produce complex 2D or 3 D engineering drawings. • Exercise independent judgment by utilizing the correct design criteria based on knowledge from vendor data and project scope. • Responsible for checking drawings for accuracy including dimensions, spelling, drafting standards and completeness utilizing correct project design criteria • Participation in field walk downs, as necessary, to obtain measurements, verify as-built documentation, and develop field sketches in support of plant modifications and design installations will occasionally be required • Ability to communicate with project engineers and other disciplines to develop drawings and resolve design discrepancies. • Exercise independent judgment to develop designs with minimal direction from Design Supervisor, Design Lead or Engineering and will concurrently support multiple projects • Review manufacturer’s drawings and other discipline drawings and any existing plan drawings for physical interferences, feasible installation and operation and maintenance considerations. • Ability to interface with the customer and their construction representatives to integrate designs as required. Requirements: • Associates Degree in drafting, design or engineering technology or 4 years of equivalent experience in the design of electrical systems may substitute year for year for degree. • Previous drafting or design experience in the railroad industry is preferred. • Seven (7) to nine (9) years experience in engineering drafting and familiarity with electrical design practices in addition to education requirements. • Proficient in AutoCAD and/or Micro Station CAD software packages and Microsoft Office software. • Knowledge of Raster Design or 3D modeling experience a plus • Must be able to understand verify applicable design criteria and is familiar with the construction industry standards. • All qualified candidates considered, however local candidates preferred.
